The violin was Georg Philip Telemann's preferred instrument. Contrary to all convention, he published a collection of six duo sonatas for violin with basso continuo as his Opus 1.

Stephan Schardt is an outstanding violinist and a highly expressive musician with a superb knowledge of baroque performance style (and naturally of the relevant theoretical writings). He was the concertmaster of the Musica Antiqua Köln for many years and is a genuine windfall for this first recording.

"Schardt plays all with aplomb and with careful consideration of apposite ornament. His intonation is impeccable and his articulation clearly defined and communicative. In these and other related matter he is sympathetically supported by his continuo players. An enjoyable, well-recorded disc." International Record Review, May 2014

"With fun-filled playing and ensemble musicianship of the utmost refinement in MDG's excellent 2+2+2 SACD recording this is a release of strangely off the beaten track Baroque music which I can wholeheartedly endorse." (MusicWeb July 2014)
