Like many of his compatriots Giovanni Battista Bononcini left his native country Italy to spread his wings across Europe, serving at important posts in Vienna and Berlin, to finally settle in London, where he became a fashionable composer and performing artist, rivaling in popularity even the great Handel (the Whigs favoured Bononcini, the Tories favoured Handel..).

As was the fashion of the time Bononcini transcribed many of his works for keyboard solo, with the aim of further popularization for domestic use.

This new recording features keyboard transcriptions of Bononcini's Divertimenti da Camera, challenging compositions full of instrumental brilliance and flourishing ornamentation.

Italian harpsichordist Giovanni Paganelli studied harpsichord and fortepiano with Robert Hill at the Freiburg Musikhochschule. He is a passionate researcher of early keyboard music.
