The Original Three Tenors Concert in Rome - 25th Anniversary Edition (CD plus DVD)

On July 7th 1990 at the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome, Italy, on the eve of the 1990 FIFA World Cup final, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and José Carrerras, with Zubin Mehta conducting, gave what was to become one of the most memorable classical performances of all time. 6,000 spectators crammed in to watch, although 100,000 had applied for tickets and the massive arena required not one but TWO orchestras to fill it with sound. The 1990 concert was such a huge hit that there were subsequent concerts. All were huge successes, but the original was always considered the greatest, and was the night when opera became truly global.

The original broadcast was shown live around the world and was in instant huge hit. Viewing figures on the night were a stupendous 800 million. The concert, issued on CD, MC and LP by Decca, went on to sell 12 million copies and became the world's best-ever selling classical album by a huge margin and undoubtedly opened classical crossover to a global audience. Considered to be an ideal showcase vehicle for the brand new 5-channel DVD format, The Three Tenors 1990 Concert became the world's FIRST EVER music DVD, going on to sell a staggering 1 million copies.
