This double-CD release is a third volume in pianist Paavali Jumppanen's ongoing recording cycle of the Beethoven piano sonatas.
This release includes Piano Sonatas Nos. 9-15, 19 & 20 - all written between 1798 and 1805, among them perhaps Beethoven's most famous Piano Sonata, the "Moonlight" Sonata.
"I found [this] an enormous nourishment of the spirit. Jumppanen is fully aware of [the sonatas's] innovative qualities, but plays them on a Steinway of the warmest tone, with relaxed concentration. The results are such that, once you hear one, it's hard not to listen to all seven of these works…this set has so many virtues" BBC Music Five Stars
