"The world had one of the greatest violinists in the person of David Oistrakh", wrote the prominent conductor Eugene Ormandy. His other fellow musicians - violinists, pianists, composers and conductors - spoke about Oistrakh with as much admiration. According to Dmitri Shostakovich, Oistrakh "has made up a whole era of Soviet performing art".

Firma Melodiya presents one of David Oistrakh's best recordings - Brahms' Violin Concerto. It was recorded in 1952 with the All-Union Radio Big Symphony Orchestra led by the remarkable conductor and Oistrakh's friend Kirill Kondrashin.
