The final disc in an acclaimed Bartók trilogy.

The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the first professional symphony orchestra to be founded in the Nordic countries (1882), has been operating without a break for over 135 years. It has grown from a band of 36 players to an orchestra of 102 regular members giving concerts attended by a total audience of a good 100,000 a year at the Helsinki Music Centre and abroad.

'Unmatched for podium presence' (New York Classical Review), Susanna Mälkki is one of today's most sought-after conductors. Chief conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra since 2016 and principal guest conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2017, her previous positions include principal guest conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra (2013-17) and music director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain (2006-13). As guest conductor she has worked with, among others, the Berliner Philharmoniker, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Münchener Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. She is regularly engaged by the world's leading opera houses, including the Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper and the Metropolitan Opera, and was the first woman to conduct a production at Teatro alla Scala, Milan (2011).

"Mälkki and her Helsinki Philharmonic offer performances that are at once satisfying, dazzling and individual. There's a poise, indeed an elegance, to the basic good posture of these interpretations, held on a taut rein, with shifts of energy splendidly controlled and could have brought the exiled Hungarian composer a new lease of life in the US." Five Stars BBC Music Christmas 2021 Orchestral Choice

"Mälkki and her orchestra marry a cool, lucid beauty to unsettling intensity...right up there with some of the best accounts on record." Gramophone
