[ Warner Classics / 36 CD Box Set ]

Release Date: Monday 7 March 2011

Leif Ove Andsnes is a leading pianist of his time, known for his exceptional musicianship and subtle touch, his considerable technical flair being unfailingly put at the service of his interpretations. He was a pioneer for being the first home-trained superstar pianist to have emerged from Norway.

This box is the story of a 20-year partnership that has yielded a rich seam of recorded treasures, first for Virgin and then for EMI. Running through this cornucopia of 34 albums (36 CDs), we find recurring themes: Grieg (Andsnes even recorded some Lyric Pieces on the composer's own piano at Troldhaugen), Nordic music in general, Schumann, Rachmaninov, Schubert.

GRAMOPHONE AWARD WINNER 2002 - Instrumental (Grieg)
Gramophone Awards 2004 Winner - Concerto [Grieg/Schumann]
Gramophone Awards 2000 Winner - Concerto [Haydn]

"...together with his lustrous tone and physical power he brings to the Third Concerto a compelling poetic sensibility. He and Pappano are entirely as one in finding the music's pulse, its fluxes of pace and its blend of grandeur, mellowness and bravura...This is a disc of terrific stature." Rachmaninov Concertos

"The indefatigable Leif Ove Andnes assumes the mantle of the late Edwin Fischer--quite literally, having adopted Fischer's arrangement of Beethoven's cadenza for K. 466--here recording two Mozart concertos while conducting from the keyboard. Well done, very well done." (AudAud.com on the Mozart)
