Nicola Benedetti is to release a major work of the violin repertoire, Beethoven's Violin Concerto. Recorded with Nicholas Collon and the award-winning Aurora Orchestra, who celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. The entire concerto was filmed to create a dynamic, full-length video. Plans for the video will be unveiled in due course. As well as a GRAMMY winner, 2 x Classical BRIT Award winner, BBC Music Magazine's 2021 Personality of the Year and a CBE, Nicky runs the incredible Benedetti Foundation for young musicians, and in 2022 became the first ever female director of the world-famous Edinburgh International Festival.
"Benedetti's first entry is swift, weightless and agile, landing as it does on the softest of pianissimos, the effect at once both virtuosic and ethereal...because her overall approach is so lively the work emerges as a genuine dialogue rather than 'holier than holy' as is, or was, so often the case." Gramophone
"Benedetti, Aurora and their conductor Nicholas Collon have recorded an interpretation that's buoyant, warmly affectionate and at times just a little tongue-in-cheek. You'd expect playfulness in the last movement, but it's there to some extent throughout, even in Benedetti's weightless playing of the slow movement." The Guardian
"Long before the finale's jollities, Benedetti and Collon make the music dance, moving lightly and fleetly without ever jeopardising the epic first movement's lyrical weight or the central larghetto's enraptured calm." The Times
