[ EMI The Perlman Edition / CD ]
Release Date: Friday 20 November 2015
Shostakovich's symphonically conceived Violin Concerto No.1, premiered by David Oistrakh in 1955, is brooding, sardonic and challenging; Perlman's live recording ends in an ovation from the audience, while Gramophone described his interpretation of Glazunov's richly lyrical concerto as "irresistible".
"Perlman's version of the Shostakovich First Violin Concerto was recorded live at the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv. There is no violinist in the world who in sheers bravura can quite match Perlman, particularly live, and the ovation which greets hisdazzling peformance of the finale is richly deserved."
