A consort of violins makes its way through the Venetian night beneath the arcades of St Mark's Square. From the basilica to aristocratic salons, from the streets to the taverns, the violinists follow the rhythms of daily life; the violin, a relatively new instrument, gradually found its place within 16th century musical life. Moving through the places where music permeated the city of the Doges, Sulla Piazza paints a vivid musical fresco that provides an accompaniment to prayer as well as dancing until daybreak.
