Joe Henry
Scar

[ Fontana / Mammoth Records / CD ]

Release Date: Tuesday 15 May 2001

'Scar' is an album of raw grace and muted passion, being endlessly smoky, contemplative and cool.

Ironically, Joe Henry might be best known for writing a song for his sister-in-law Madonna ('Don't tell Me'), in a style that couldn't be further from his rootsy own.

After several albums of his own (the last two, 'Trampoline' and 'Fuse' being near classics), we arrive at the challenging 'Scar' - with that Madonna song now titled 'Stop', and arranged as a slow burning Brad Mehldau mood piece.

Watch out for guests Me'Shell Ndegeshello and the great Ornette Coleman. An album that may not be instant, but repeat plays will prove it very rewarding indeed.
