'Latin' is the first in a new series by Australian label Petrol Records called 'The Greatest Moments Ever'. The series focuses on different genres of music and showcases popular tracks from those genres.
This one is about salsa and, true to its mission, the album casts a wide net and includes the New York scene in the essential contributions of Ray Barretto (with La Juventud de Borinquen), Perez Prado (Virgen de la Macarena and Girl With Green Eyes) and others including La Crema de New York with El Party, Quimbia and Cisco Kid (!), the noted Charlie Palmieri with Pacheco's Descarga and similar hot sounds from La Playa Sextet, Willie Rosario's orchestra, Roberto Puente and kako and His Orchestra.
This is spicy, big band nightclub music with all the incendiary front line brass attack and rhythmic crossfire that you'd expect.
