The debut album from seasoned local five-piece rock group, Eight. 15 tracks of varied musical soundscapes, with many layers and textures. 'Moving' includes CD-Rom material

'Moving' is the debut album from local five-piece rock group, eight, who have actually been around on the scene for eight years now.

'Moving' takes you through 15 tracks of varied musical soundscapes, with all the layers and textures expected from eight. The album also includes a CD-Rom which documents the time spent in the studio.

The recording process began in July 2003, with vast quantities of music gear being loaded into producer, Malcolm Welsford's Dominion Rd villa. Almost every room was taken over with all manner of noise making or noise recording devices. It was in this environment in which 'moving' was painstakingly recorded over many months.

Most of the album was recorded during the winter months, 'live' in the lounge, with candles and a blazing fire place adding to the atmosphere. Perhaps setting this vibe was an attempt to produce songs that were organic having warmth and character. But you will be able to draw your own conclusions.

"(eight's) demo album build is a solid rock outing with bark and bite. A funky spirit serves the band well and with some seriously deep emoting involved. . . Build could well be the foundation for a future for eight. Rock radio should listen to this album, if their powers that be are close enough to the ground. Check out 'Whale' and the title track at the very least."

"Eight are a great rock band. . . Melodic catchy hooks, superb vocals and well arranged songs are Eight to a T, the exact ingredients for great radio songs."
- Programme Director - The Rock radio station

" . . 'Build', their debut release showcases their many pronged arsenal. The tightest rhythm section your likely to hear on a local album, guitars that are by turn ethereal and edgy, emotive vocals and arrangements that veer from ambient to anthems and back. And besides all that, it's good. The best songs (try Whale for a start) have that beautiful economy that you can only achieve when you know your songs are good. And the best aspect of eight's musicianship is not it's virtuosity but it's restraint. It's music to lose yourself in. Build is described as a demo. This shows through once or twice in songs that seem more like ideas than finished works, but you're not likely to hear a better sounding demo. Not an easy one to categorise, but the elements of rock, funk, and soundtrack sit together easily, and it's worth buying for the cover artwork alone. . ."
