Lesser is the brainchild of J Doerck, who began his musical career in San Diego as a member of various punk rock bands including A Minor Forest. J adopted the name Lesser to express a new punk aesthetic through electronic music. His move to San Francisco put him in contact with such leading lights in the electronic scene as Kid 606, bLevin bLectrum and Matmos. The Matmos hookup led to him performing with Bjork for her 'Vespertine' tour.

'Suppressive Acts I-X' is a collection of songs that try to bind a history of metal to a career in electronica. Metal songs aside, the album is a study in thriftiness - re-using a base of 50 or so samples and manipulating them enough to render them useful across an entire album. If Lesser's 2000 release 'Gearhound' was schizophrenic (and it most certainly was), then 'Suppressive Acts I-X' is meticulous paranoia.

'Suppressive Acts I-X' is meant to be a chip on the shoulder… but not in the anal expulsive manner of past Lesser albums. Possibly it is more reflective. Probably it is less annoying. Surely it is ten new Lesser songs.
