Dublin born and New York based McKeown has deep seated Celtic roots and a flair for taking the old to the new.
"Dublin born and New York based McKeown could easily be compared to Sandy Denny or Loreena McKennitt. She has deep-seated Celtic roots and a flair for bringing the old to the new.
Here she takes traditional Celtic songs that are not the mainstream choices and gives them a variety of treatments. An example of this is on "Oro Mhile Cra" where Susan utilises backing singers from Northern Mali who have strong Berber roots. They supply a reply chant to her lead, illustrating a co-relation to the Celtic form. Sound a little too highbrow, don't worry... just listen, it's beautiful.
Indeed, "Sweet Liberty" is a rich and enchanting album that should have a relatively wide appeal, considering it's rather esoteric material."
