Like Steve Earle or Paul Westerberg, Lucero bring real Southern rock with a true punk heart. A highly recommended, melodic and adventurous album.

"Lucero have crafted the Great American Rock n' Roll Record - a true blue album that has much more to do with Southern rock than revivalists like the Kings Of Leon."
4 stars - All Music

"The country album The Replacements never made."
- Rolling Stone

What a difference a few years makes: Lucero's self-titled debut was labeled alt-country but with the release of the bands third album 'That Much Further West', they've become a solid part of the Southern rock revival, a tag which fits Lucero more comfortably, not just because they're from the South but because they rock in a way alt-country bands can't.

As much as they derive their sound from classic and Southern rock, they also borrow from indie and punk sources like the Pixies and the Replacements, utilizing sharp playing and a punk attitude to add dramatic punch to their tales of heartbreak.

A melodic and adventurous album, 'That Much Further West' benefits from a mostly live recording process which leaves an exciting raw element invigorated by taut and intricate drumming, alongside intuitive guitar lines [that sound steeped in cigarette smoke and late-night letdowns] and singer Ben Nichols' husky, whisky-fuelled primal screams and whispers.

Like Steve Earle or Paul Westerberg, Lucero bring real Southern rock with a true punk heart. Highly recommended.
