A wonderfully affecting record of humble traditional songs, ideal for Nick Cave and Tom Waits fans alike - Roberts has crafted a subtly spectacular album, thoroughly deserving of its glowing international press.

Alasdair Roberts was born in the '70s in Swabia, Germany and was raised in central Scotland, learning to play guitar, singing and writing songs in the small frost hollow town of Callander. He began his career as Appendix Out, releasing three albums before reverting to his birth name back in 2001, releasing two more albums of Scottish, English and Irish folk songs and ballads.

His new record 'No Earthly Man' sees Roberts presenting another set of traditional British ballads and songs, though this time with a large, revolving cast of players. Drinking more deeply from the dark and ancient well of British song tradition, Roberts has created a record, which, despite its traditional roots, is his most radical to date.

The root of the album is Death: not the wallowing, wailing, self-pitying ordeal of an album one might expect, but a celebratory, positively joyous approach, aided by Will Oldham [aka Bonnie 'Prince' Billy] occupying the producer's chair.

A wonderfully affecting record of humble traditional songs, ideal for Nick Cave and Tom Waits fans alike, with 'No Earthly Man', Alasdair Roberts has crafted a subtly spectacular album, thoroughly deserving of its glowing international press.
