Candi Staton's involvement with American music has brought her recognition not only in the United States, but also in numerous countries around the world. Her unique singing style and voice have gained the respect and admiration not only of fans, but also fellow vocalists and musicians.

After touring the gospel circuit throughout the late '50s and '60s, Candi Staton launched a solo career, garnering 16 R&B hits for fame studios and gained the title of First Lady of Southern Soul for her Grammy-nominated R&B renditions of country tunes. She then propelled herself into the disco era until 1982 when she returned to gospel field. She has since recorded 11 albums, two of which have won Grammy nominations.

This album is a new recording in 2006 from this legendary soul singer and is produced by Mark Nevers (Lambchop). Barry Beckit was the MD for the project and soul fans will know that Barry was Aretha Franklin's right hand man throughout her career (he also played on most of the classic Bobby Womack albums). The album also features Chip Young who produced Elvis and also played on all Jerry Lee Lewis's records
