The Chisa Years: 1965-1975

Trumpeter Hugh Masekela occupies a unique position in South African jazz known as much for his political struggles as his music.

This recording brings together a series of South African artists, mostly accompanied by Masekela, with accompaniment from exiled township musicians and intriguingly the Crusaders.

Masekela never saw himself as a purely jazz musician and this is reflected in the diversity of styles from traditional Zulu to Nigerian Afro Beat.
