How We Operate

[ ATO Records / CD ]

Release Date: Tuesday 2 May 2006

The quintet's seventh album is a cohesive and accessible collection of songs that feature deft musicianship, lush melodies and their poetic yet narrative lyrical style.

Gomez burst onto the music scene in 1998, winning the Mercury Prize for their debut album 'Bring It On'. They followed this with 'Liquid Skin' (1999), the rarities and B-sides compilation 'Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline' (2001), 'Our Gun' (2002), 'Split the Difference' (2004, hailed by The BBC as "one of the finest releases of the year.") and in 2005, they released 'Out West', Gomez's first live album and the first Gomez release for ATO Records.

'How We Operate', the quintet's seventh album, is produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Counting Crows, Throwing Muses). Gomez have never done pre-production on any of their previous albums, so for 'How We Operate' they got together with Gil to work out each song before they recorded them in the studio. This focused approach resulted in a cohesive and accessible collection of songs that feature deft musicianship, lush melodies and their poetic yet narrative lyrical style.

"…the finest and most listener-friendly album of Gomez's 10 year career."
