Like psyched-out folk with a heavy dose of soul, 'BML' blurs the edges of consciousness and transports you to another plane. The resulting tribal folk jams are warm, heavy and thrilling, yet strangely shot through with shoegazing spacery.

"Is this folk music or a hard funk project that's fallen into a vat of morphine? It's music that brings to mind images of sitting around the campfire sucking on cacti, searching for your spirit animal and listening to the Jesus and Mary Chain, man… you get the picture. Bring on the magik, ye weirde butte awesomme minstrels.”
- Matt Crawley, Cheese On Toast

Brightblack Morning Light is the collective of N.D. Shineywater aka Nabob and Rachael Hughes aka Rabob. The two homeless friends from Alabama wrote the songs found on their beautiful self-titled album while they were living in tee-pees in rural Northern California. The majority of the recording was completed without a permanent shelter, in the rural tranquility of Idyllwild, California, in a room with large windows looking out onto the surrounding nature.

Nabob and Rabob have recorded one of the most unique and mesmerising albums of the year. Like psyched-out folk with a heavy dose of soul, 'Brightblack Morning Light' blurs the edges of consciousness and transports you to another plane. The resulting tribal folk jams are warm, heavy and thrilling, yet strangely shot through with shoegazing spacery.

After recording their debut - a split 7” with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - back in '02 as Brightblack, the pair also recorded their debut album 'Ala.Cali.Tucky' with Palace Music's Paul Oldham [brother of Billy], to a muted, warm response.
