'Shelter of the Ti Tree' (derived from the Maori name for his hometown of Timaru) is the first recording as composer and bandleader by talented and renowned New Zealand jazz bass player, Paul Dyne.

Wellington based Paul Dyne has been a main stay on the New Zealand jazz scene for many years. He has played his beloved bass alongside many of our top jazz artists.

Paul Dyne is a lecturer at Massey University and perhaps one of his greatest accomplishments has been his establishment of the jazz degree at the Wellington conservatorium.

'Shelter of the Ti Tree' (derived from the Maori name for his hometown of Timaru) is the first recording by Paul Dyne as composer and bandleader. The album is a tribute to his many influences from his international career.

Featured here alongside Paul are some of New Zealand's finest jazz musicians including Vaughn Roberts, Roger Manins and Roger Sellers.

"His sensitive compositions and arrangements showcase the musicians in an imaginative range of combinations, adding hugely to the music's appeal and his democratic attitude to band leading ensures everyone gets there share of solos."
- Mike Nock, Sydney April 2005.
