Boogie Boots

Kiwi-born, Sydney-based, Jan Preston has become a favourite on the blues and jazz festival scene over the past 5-10 years and her profile has been enhanced by regular appearances on radio.

Jan's eighth album 'Boogie Boots' sees her combining her love for the blues, soul, jazz and boogie woogie.

"Here she sounds revitalised, whether tinkering away on old blues covers (Ugly Papa) or creating her own originals in the style of stride-piano classics (Boogie Boots). Equally adept at taking on Clarence Gatemouth Brown (She Walked Right In And She Walked Right Out) and lovingly re-writing Fats Domino (The Big Beat), there's a happy vibe running through this blues-filled recording. The swinging band helps but it's Preston who is the star; with a strong left hand (as is needed for boogie woogie playing) and a soulful jazz cry. The closing rendition of Leadbelly's Goodnight Irene is a real treat, managing to breathe life into a song so easily adaptable to folk, blues and jazz styles."
