18 of the best tracks from this legendary NZ band. Includes X, Splat, The Aim, SoLa, Grader Spader, Argonaut plus rarities.

Since forming in Christchurch in 1987, Bailterspace have been without doubt one of New Zealand's heaviest exports. 'BAILTERSPACE' features eighteen collected tracks that go a long way to proving this.

After six albums of imaginary spaceworlds carved from harmonic volume, Bailterspace come across a lot more human, a lot more rocking, and no less brilliant or powerful than ever. They remain one of the most vital and original bands of our time.

The tracklisting was re-mastered in the band's long-time spiritual home of Manhattan and includes a previously unreleased version of 'At 5 We Drive' and a rare track entitled 'GlimmerDot'.

BAILTERSPACE:
Alister Parker - guitars, vocals
John Halvorsen - bass, guitar, vocals
Brent McLachlan - drums, samples

Bailterspace: the sound of three men supplying more power than the average nuclear power plant.

What makes Bailterspace unique? Well, no other major band has made the transition from the New Zealand scene to survival in the musical rat race of New York and made it stick for well over a decade. Few bands seem to have the creative resources to last six albums. And no-one sounds like them.

If sounding unique has allowed Bailterspace to stay on top of their game for so long, it has also made it hard to box them conveniently into any fashionable flavour of musical genre. But far from acting like perennial outsiders, Bailterspace have constantly evolved through the musical maelstrom of their own making. Their shimmering rock combined with astute sonic texturing is a great formula that has won them accolades and fans the world over.

And after six albums of imaginary spaceworlds carved from harmonic volume, Bailterspace come across a lot more human, a lot more rocking, and no less brilliant or powerful than ever on the new Flying Nun collection BAILTERSPACE. They remain one of the most vital bands of our time.

The idea of compiling eighteen tracks for a Bailterspace collection came together around the time of one of Alister Parker's infrequent trips back to NZ - where he took the chance to hastily assemble a pickup band and perform two space rock shows in Auckland and Wellington. Over a few celebratory beers and a cranking stereo in the Flying Nun offices, a quick tracklisting was prepared and then scrutinized for many moons.

Discovery of a previously unreleased version of Wammo album track At 5 We Drive, as well as the willingness of the band to include a rare track, GlimmerDot (originally released on split 45 7" by US label Amphetamine Reptile Records) saw the solidifying of the tracklisting for BAILTERSPACE.

Final audio tweaks & edits were prepared especially by Brent McLachlan in his new upstate NY studio and the complete tracklisting was then remastered in New York at Truetone Mastering during March 2004. Artwork was conceptualised & prepared, as ever, by Alister Parker.
