American trumpeter and big band legend Erskine Hawkins' virtuosity as a soloist earned him the sobriquet 'The Twentieth Century Gabriel', and during the swing era his band was one of the most popular and successful.

With key sidemen such as instrumentalist-arrangers Avery Parrish and Sammy Lowe, tenor saxophonist Paul Bascomb and trombonists Bob Range and Wlibur Bascomb, the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra recorded big band classics such as Tippin' In, After Hours and Tuxedo Junction (the last of these was composed by Hawkins and became a jazz 'standard'). All are included on this release. Also featured are popular Erskine Hawkins Orchestra recordings including Someone's Rocking My Dream Boat, Holiday for Swing, Sweet Georgia Brown and Bicycle Bounce, among many others.
