Johnny may be best known as notorious serial killer, Joey Henderson on Shortland Street, but over the years Johnny has been involved in several different music projects including Jester in which he formed with best mate Jared Kahi. Jester went on to release King of the World EP in 1999 and their Eyes for Xmas EP in 2001. In 2002 Johnny provided the vocals on 'Something New', a song by fictional band The Zeph years. The song was part of an Air New Zealand campaign and went on to reach number 3 in the New Zealand charts.

"Armed with a voice placed on a knife-edge between Thom Yorke and Billy Corgan, Barker manages to slow one's heartbeat in a single listening."
- Jose Barbosa

"There's a songwriting prowess here rare in the current climate."
