This self-titled debut album from this Christchurch based band features songs that best reflect their exploration into Maori and Celtic heritages, including original compositions, together with some older tunes which they have made their own.

Christchurch based Emeralds & Greenstone consists of Ariana Tikao (vocals, taoka puoro), Laura Tomlin (vocals, keyboard, wooden flute, Irish whistle), Argène Montgomery-Hönger (bodhràn, Irish whistle, percussion, ukelele) and Jon Hooker (guitars, ukelele).

This self-titled debut album from the band features songs from their repertoire that best reflect their exploration into their Maori and Celtic heritages, including compositions from all four band members together with some older songs and tunes which they have "dressed-up" and made their own.

2008 has been a big year for the band performing at: the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Waipara Wine & Food Celebration, SummerTimes, Christchurch International Jazz & Blues Festival (Laura/Jon), Centre for New Zealand Studies in London (Ariana) World of Wearable Arts, and Heritage Week at the Harbour Light Theatre.

The album was launched on the 4th December 2008 at the Great Hall at Christchurch's Art Centre to a capacity crowd. The event was held at the iconic venue where they held their first mesmerising concert, during the 2006 Montana Christchurch International Jazz Festival - effectively returning to their roots, which also underpins the kaupapa of their music.

"As a collective they ooze character, cross-cultural credentials, multi-lingualism and instrumentalism which bring their varied individual roots and heritage to life through colourful songs and tunes which transport, enthral and inspire."
- Tom Harland, Scotland's The Garden Sessions
