Winning Hearts & Minds

Formed in the mid 1990s, Subtract are truly the forefathers of the Auckland heavy scene. Combining elements of metal old and new, with a penchant for punishing grooves, pummeling rhythms and charismatically aggressive vocals and lyrics, Subtract have never relinquished an iota of the intensity and sheer heaviness that have become their sonic trademarks.

Subtract's 1998 debut EP, 'Quench,' their sophomore offering 'Bloodshot', and first full-length album, 2004's 'Formula One', won the band legions of hell-bent fans and saw tracks soar into a number of charts. Their decade-long reign as one of NZ's premier metal acts confirmed with opening spots for legendary acts such as Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Fear Factory, Helmet, and more recently, Lamb of God and Opeth.

As intense and straight up heavy a prospect as one will witness in any metal band, Subtract soldier on into 2009 with 'Winning Hearts & Minds,' their long-awaited new release (the first in 5 years). With long-time guitarist Harvey Jackson replaced by Evan Short (ex-Concord Dawn, Day One), Subtract have become more focused, more clinical and heavier than ever before - Undoubtedly, 'Winning Hearts and Minds' is the band's strongest and most ambitious material to date.
