Formed by Erland Cooper (Orcadian), Simon Tong (Verve; Blur; The Good The Bad & The Queen) and David Nock (The Orb; The Cult; Paul McCartney's Fireman), Erland & The Carnival are a London based folk rock band, and this self-titled debut album was recorded at Damon Albarn's Studio 13.

The group is best known for their contemporary take on traditional British folk songs, but their original material has a '60s garage rock influence that creates a unique sound. The name Erland & The Carnival comes from a Jackson C. Frank song, "My Name is Carnival", which is covered here.
