Go for the Throat

The second (and, sadly, last) album by the reformed Humble Pie is business as usual. The band remains a brash, strutting boogie machine capable of shredding eardrums with the best of 'em.

"The second (and, sadly, last) album by the reformed Humble Pie is business as usual. The band remains a brash, strutting boogie machine capable of shredding eardrums with the best of 'em. The new songs by frontman and exemplary blues shouter Steve Marriott continue to deal in Bad Company-style riffage, and as usual there are some interesting covers, in this case a radically slowed down "All Shook Up," and (more surprisingly) a note-perfect recreation of Marriott's Small Faces classic "Tin Soldier." There is also a nice example of Marriott's penchant for lifting lyrics from the blues and R&B classics he cut his teeth on, in this case "Driver," a John Lee Hooker-ish boogie tune that quotes liberally from Chuck Berry's "Let it Rock.""
