Ora

'Ora' is the second album from WAI, the highly innovative Maori group who signalled a new, unique style and sound with their groundbreaking debut '100%'. The release of '100%' resulted in WAI being a finalist in the prestigious BBC Awards For World Music in 2001.

Following 8 years of touring that has seen WAI fulfil their dream of taking the Maori language to the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, China, The Channel Islands, Australia, Norway and beyond, ORA sees WAI again follow in the footsteps of their ancestors to guide their path forward. "We truly believe that our language has a life, a rhythm and a groove that is unique" … and Poi rhythms (the traditional percussive instrument of Maori) are the root and inspiration for WAI's music. WAI employ these traditional aspects adding subtle use of modern technology and numerous guests including members of Fat Freddy's Drop, Little Bushman and Fly My Pretty's to distil the sounds of other musical forms to create music that sounds ancient, deep and other-worldly.
