Revealing secrets of their longevity, 'Tao of the Dead' is the group's surprisingly forceful yet sophisticated seventh album, one that evokes a refreshing nostalgia paying faithful homage to Pink Floyd, Rush, Steppenwolf and Neu.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have consistently specialized in sound-tracking the breaking of the seventh seal. For those of you less schooled in scripture, that means they make music fit for the end of the world, whether it is an interior existence troubled by nightmares and doubt or an exterior reality continually plagued by environmental disaster, neocolonialism and unending Wars on Whatever.

Recorded in ten days, 'Tao of the Dead' features a slimmed-down version of ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, whose previous two albums were performed by a six-piece lineup instead of the quartet featured here. It's also one of the band's most conceptual records. The track list is split into two lengthy halves ("Tao of the Dead" and "Strange News from Another Plane"), both of them featuring a different key, with each of the movements therein moving seamlessly into the next.

This limited Deluxe Edition of 'Tao of the Dead' is packaged as a 2CD Mediabook that includes a 48-page booklet and pop-up 16-page hand-drawn comic / short story.

"The band's typically thunderous melodic sprawl and cryptic musings on life and death perfectly fit the conceptual bill..."
-SPIN

""Pure Radio Cosplay" thrusts out a riff from the Rolling Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and in typical Trail of Dead fashion, it reprises later in the album."
-ALTERNATIVE PRESS

"A massive sounding tour de force... 'Tao of the Dead' will result in an indulgence of the mind, just please remember to snap back into reality."
-CMJ

"In stripping back to a four-piece they strip away pretentiousness and inject rough-hewn power."
-KERRANG

"A majestic return to form... With epic emotions, giant soundscapes, instrumental skill, hooks, and that indefinable quality you just can't quite put your finger on..."
-PASTE
