O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Music From a Film by Joel & Ethan Cohen / 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

[ Mercury Records Nashville U.S.A. / Lost Highway Records / 2 CD ]

Release Date: Sunday 28 August 2011

The album that rocketed bluegrass, roots and even Americana music from the 20th Century into the new millennium now features a 17-track second disc.

Every once in a while, a movie comes along that has a soundtrack that fits it like a glove - 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' is definitely one of them.

The music from the film taps into the source from which the purest strains of country, blues, bluegrass, folk, and gospel music flow. Highly skilled producer, T Bone Burnett enlisted the voices of Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, and other kindred spirits for performances of traditional material, in arrangements that were either a cappella or featured bare-bones accompaniment.

It's now been a decade since one of the most unlikely successes in music history was released. 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' is now one of the 10 top-selling soundtracks of all time. It's also the number-one-selling soundtrack (and 17th biggest album) of the 21st century, with more than nine million albums sold.

The album that rocketed bluegrass, roots and even Americana music from the 20th Century into the new millennium now features a 17-track second disc. Thirteen of these newly-released songs were recorded during original sessions for the film, and all except "Cow Road" and "In the Highways" went unheard on-screen. This release marks the first time these tracks have been made available in any format.
