Release Date: Thursday 24 November 2011

Yvette Williams grew up in rural North Canterbury, New Zealand. With a healthy appreciation for music from a young age thanks to a musical family, her debut album 'Lessons' is a self confessed "long-time-coming/long-awaited" project.

Yvette admits to always having a somewhat scrambled set of goals in life but when it actually came down to it, music has always been the one true love.

With a family make-up of British and NZ Maori, Yvette's sound has many influences and appreciations. With a strong emphasis on vocal melodies and harmonies of which her songs are built around, and with a pointed desire not to write pop songs but still write to a form, Yvette's challenge has been to develop a sound which fits in with the electronic genre in particular; "I enjoy the energy and intensity of electronic music and wanted to experiment by adding my own feeling and influence in order to achieve the sound that the end product has..."

'Lessons' is the culminating result of the experiences of the last couple years and earlier, taking you through songs about love, fear, appreciation of life, and hopes for the future. The track "We Are Alive", both in remixed and regular form, is a song written about Canterbury's earthquakes. "Fool" and "Between Asleep and Awake" are about love's challenges, whilst "Magic Time" is a song about how the sun sets at the Williams family home in Ohoka. 'Lessons' is a heartfelt and dynamic first effort.

Yvette describes her musical ambitions as a "work in
progress" and definitely plans to keep creating now that
the ball has begun rolling.
