Ustad Sabri Khan, awarded with the prestigious Padma Bhusan award by the President of India, is one of the great exponents of the sarangi. He and his sons Kamal Sabri (sarangi) and Sarvar Sabri (tabla) present two ragas of a serene and spiritual beauty: Raga Vachaspati, a Karnatic (South Indian) raga and Raga Jog, both conveying a lively and romantic mood.

One of the most renowned musicians from India descends on both sides of his family from a line of distinguished musicians. By virtue of belonging to the Sainia Gharana, he can trace the tradition of his music to Mian Tansen, the great vocalist in the court of Moghul Emperor Akbar. Khansahib was initiated into the art of Sarangi playing by his grandfather Ustad Haji Mohammad Khan and later he continued his training under his father Ustad Chhajju Khan, both accomplished exponents of Sarangi in their times.

He has toured extensively, sharing the joys of his age-old art with audiences throughout the world, winning respect and admiration. He was responsible for introducing the Sarangi to American and European audiences.

Kamal Sabri
Kamal Sabri is the talented young son of the great Sarangi maestro Ustad Sabri Khan. He started learning Sarangi at the tender age of seven years from his illustrious father and today he has set his mark in the field of Sarangi playing. He is an exceedingly promising Sarangi player and is committed to carrying on the family tradition of Sarangi playing. He has travelled widely as a soloist and accompanying his father. He has won several awards and music competitions and is a regular performer on the All India Radio and TV
