Mantovani had first topped the US album charts in 1953 and returned to the summit in 1959 with his interpretations of film themes entitled Film Encores. The cascading strings he had virtually made his own over the preceding years were used to stunning effect on this album, which would go on to sell over a million copies Stateside, although for some reason the album missed out on the charts altogether in the UK.
