A founding member of The Rock & Roll Trio with his brother Dorsey and family friend Paul Burlison, Johnny Burnette achieved greater success during his all too brief solo career. The trio originally formed in 1952 as the Rhythm Rangers, although by the end of the decade the brothers were pursuing a joint career as songwriters (most notably for Ricky Nelson) and individual careers as soloists. Johnny had signed initially with Freedom Records before being absorbed onto the Liberty roster, where the greater promotional clout resulted in him scoring a number of hits, with several also crossing over and hitting in the UK. Roses Are Red was Johnny's last album release before he headed off to Chancellor and includes the hits The Fool Of The Year and Clown Shoes.
