The band's new record, Apar, is their follow-up to 2010′s still-great Subiza. The band call it their "big production album," which is kind of evidenced by first single "Spirit," a maximalist, Balearic summer jam to end all summer jams, all seemingly endlessly layered tracks of guitar, drums, and synths - and some choir vocals, too.
With fewer vocal samples and a greater emphasis on lyric-led songwriting than on last album Subiza, Apar moves the Basque-born, Barcelona-based quartet incrementally away from the dancefloor while retaining that intangible 'eyes close/arms in the air' hedonistic feel.
The album's cover was inspired by Basque artist Jorge Oteiza, who created similar graveyard crosses. They've been thrown into the sea near Cap de Creus, a Northern Spanish region.
