"Since their inception in the early '90s, Tool have become one of the most important stalwarts of the whole "alt-rock" movement... "Undertow" was their first full-length album, proceeded by their budding CDEP, "Opiate". It arrived near the height of "grunge" music's lofty zenith, but well before the commercial "punk pop" craze began to take flight. This turned out to be well timed as it forged a definite statement for the "metal" scene, and proved once and for all the validity of this style of sound.

Both the band's music and promotional video clips have always been uncompromising and extreme, and "Undertow" has the power to shock and excite people, both at the same time... just take a listen to "Sober" and see if it doesn't.

Complete with their alternative theories of science, and Eastern religions, Tool's music is infused with complex musical structures and fantastic technical prowess. However, they never let this get in the way of providing the listener with something to just plain straight, rock-out to - "Undertow" is an outstanding example of this."
