Formed in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and styles of music. They are noted precursor to punk rock and now are considered a link between the hippie and punk cultures however it is agreed that the English rock band are one of the earliest space rock groups.
Their trademark sound has been described as "that gargantuan and impenetrable premetal / hardcore drone, those great riffs, that inexorable drive to destinations unknown". The psychedelic warlord's double live album was recorded at Liverpool Stadium and the Brixton Sundown in December 1972. Space Ritual is relentless in its sci-fi metaphor and unflinching in its execution.
