A good deal of the songs on PersonA were written by all 10 band members collectively, with principal songwriter and singer Alex Ebert collaborating with the current line-up of Mark Noseworthy, Orpheo McCord, Josh Collazo, Christian Letts, Nico Aglietti, Seth Ford-Young, Mitchell Yoshida, Christopher Richard, and Stewart Cole. Writing would often begin with a member playing his instrument not even knowing where the song would go, Ebert encouraging and directing the song's shape, yielding wonderfully unique ends. It's little wonder that Rolling Stone wrote that PersonA is the band's "most risk-taking, freewheeling album yet."
