Soundtology

Soundtology showcases the harmonic and rhythmic innovation of pianist and composer Kevin Field in collaboration with some of the most respected names in the world of contemporary jazz. Recorded in Brooklyn New York, Soundtology features two all-star quartet line ups. The first sees Kevin square off with guitarist Mike Moreno - one of the leading modern jazz guitarists of this century - in conjunction with two of New York's most in demand rhythm section players, bassist Matt Penman - a studio heavyweight who has featured on over 80 albums and drummer Nate Wood most known for his work with the Grammy nominated band Kneebody.

The second quartet features a unique voice in instrumental music, guitarist Nir Felder. Having already collaborated in the studio and in concert, Nir and Kevin share a strong rapport which is clearly evident on Soundtology. This quartet also features Charles Haynes, one of the most versatile drummers of his generation with drum/production credits including such diverse artists as Kanye West, Lada Gaga, Marcus Miller and Jason Moran. Rounding off the group is bassist Orlando le Fleming whose prowess on both electric and acoustic bass is unquestionably on display throughout Soundtology.

As a leader, pianist Kevin Field demonstrates his distinctive approach to composition and improvisation with an inclusive approach that fosters a strong interactive ethos across the two quartets. Soundtology is musical tension and release traversing a mix of genres that aims to stimulate and engage - to reinforce the connection to the music, from the performer to the listener.
