Mira Calix (real name Chantal Passamonte) is a multi-award-winning UK-based multidisciplinary artist and composer with work in electronica and sound design; and a long history with Warp Records.
absent origin reassembles and reimagines recordings and musical scores composed by Calix, globally, over the past decade. It is an album about borders and edges, cutting and tearing, and composing new combinations that point to an audio visual manifesto for the 21st century with nods to avant-pop and post-punk.
After immersing herself in the history of collage, each track on absent origin was produced by applying a collage technique specific to a particular visual artist.
The lines between electronic and organic are continually blurred throughout.
Calix's creativity knows no bounds, and absent origin proves yet again that she can surprise listeners whilst maintaining her own distinct sound.
