Five years after the release of 'The First Circle' Neroli celebrates its 25th anniversary with a new volume.
The title reference went back to year 2000 when Volcov decided to give the label the name of Brian Eno's Neroli album, an hour-long ambient opus inspired by the oil derived by the flowers of the Seville orange. So in 2020 after 20 years and 50 releases the label went full circle and offered an album of delicate and heartwarming melodies and atmospheric songs.
'The Second Circle' picks up from where its predecessor left and expands its aestethic into more musical territories. While the first album mainly enrolled artists that already released previously on the label, the cast of artists here is wider. Jordan GCZ, Other Lands, Stephen Lopkin, Zopelar and Meftah make their debut on Neroli. NYC's music mastermind Joe Claussell loved 'The First Circle' so his contribution was natural and also long overdue.
Nu Era, Lar Bartkuhn, Molinaro and EDB had already blessed the label along the years in various phases.
A special mention goes to Detroit's legend Claude Young jr, who after listening to the previous volume suggested to count him in if there would be a follow up!
This really instilled a seed into (label boss) Volcov's imagination to start developing a new album. Claude was also the first artist to deliver and his song sets the tone for this new musical narrative.
'The Second Circle ' moves from still ambience and majestic uplifting strings to quirky electronics, it explores expansive fusion landscapes till landing into Detroit beatless territories accompanying the listener to multiple musical places and to embrace this unique spiritual journey.
