'Pearl Harbour' is best described as an American epic that focuses on one America's darkest days, and portrays the story through a 'cockpit-view' of all the action.

On a sleepy Sunday morning in December, as children played and families prayed, squadrons of Japanese warplanes screamed across the skies of a Hawaiian paradise and launched a surprise attack on the U.S. armed forces at Pearl Harbor.

The infamous day that jolted America from peaceful isolationism to total war and altered the course of world history is relived in this epic tale of patriotism, passion and romance from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, producer / director Michael Bay and screenwriter Randall Wallace.

This popular film focuses on the life-changing events surrounding December 7, 1941, and the war's devastating impact on two daring young pilots (Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett) and a beautiful, dedicated nurse (Kate Beckinsale). It is a tale of catastrophic defeat, heroic victory, personal courage and overwhelming love set against a stunning backdrop of spectacular wartime action.

The highlight of the movie is undoubtedly the special effects and production values, which have gone in to make this movie as close to the real thing as possible.

All of the dogfight scenes for example are so realistic, you can almost smell the fumes of fire and gas from all of the explosions. One scene actually sees the camera following a bomb as it gets dropped from a bomber plane over-passing a squadron of aircraft carriers.

The camera follows the bomb from a birds-eye view from the moment it's dropped from the plane, all the way to the ground where it finally makes impact and explodes on it's target. An amazing display of special effects, and it looks all the more amazing in DVD format.
