Big Love: Hymnal (Digipak)

Known primarily for his postmodern pop music, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne stretches his wings with this score to the hit HBO series 'Big Love', a collection of emotion-filled character themes & story motifs from the show's second season. Inspired by the classic scores of Bernard Herrmann + Nino Rota, Byrne pays homage to his musical heroes with a range of instrumentation, including guitars, flugelhorns, violins, and synthesizers. In keeping with the show's theme - that of a man & his polygamist Mormon family adapting to the neighborhood and world around them - many of Byrne's pieces are based on traditional Mormon hymns.

'Big Love: Hymnal' represents Byrne's fourth outing into the world of film & television scoring. Included on the disc are expanded cues, unused pieces of score, and a haunting rendition of the Elvis Presley classic, "Blue Hawaii".
