Over a year and half ago, a team of experts set out to transform this legendary BBC drama by enhancing viewing pleasure and enabling Pride and Prejudice to be seen as never before…in breathtaking high definition. A task previously thought impossible.

Returning to the original Super 16mm film negatives, this timeless drama has been painstakingly restored frame-by-frame. The negatives were ultrasonically cleaned and then log scanned in high definition using the unique FAB Tech process. FAB Tech enables re-mastering to take place from the original A&B negatives, without any join-bumps, rather than from second-generation prints.

At this stage shot-by-shot colour correction work took place, including any adjustments to the contrast and colour. This was followed by frame-by-frame de-spotting and picture restoration. The titles, captions and credits were then re-created in high definition.

The outstanding result is a beautifully restored visual delight with rich and vivid colours plus previously unseen details from 16mm negatives, such as lace and fabric texture, revealed for the first time. The sound quality has also been enhanced by creating a 5.1 audio from the original sound tracks.

The incredible picture quality is a result of both the ability to go back to the superior detail of original negatives and complete a true high-definition scan and the ability to keep this material at high definition resolution right through to delivery on Blu-Ray DVD.

The relationship between Mr Darcy, a wealthy single man, and Elizabeth Bennet, a spirited young woman, provides the core of this emotional and compelling story.
