The Lobster is set in a dystopian near future where single people, according to the rules of the town, are arrested and transferred to the Hotel. There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into the woods. A desperate man escapes from the Hotel to the woods where the Loners live and there he falls in love, although it's against their rules. Dark, funny and absolutely original.

Starring:
Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C Reilly, Lea Seydoux

Directed by: Yorgos Lanthimos

"What makes The Lobster such an unusual and original film is also what is most likely to discomfit audiences about it. Lanthimos's directorial approach is enigmatic in the extreme. He never lets us know whether any given scene is intended to be comic, grotesque or sinister - or a mix of the three. He deliberately blurs the lines between farce, thriller and dystopian horror." - Independent

"A wickedly funny protest against societal preference for nuclear coupledom that escalates, by its own sly logic, into a love story of profound tenderness and originality." - Variety

"Lanthimos trumps the outlandish premise and turns the film into accessible and timeless reverie. It's a spark of ingenuity that doesn't rely on subversions or meta humor. Just originality." - Consequence of Sound
