The Art of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau - Wed, 25 Jul 2012

Commemorating one of their greatest artists, who died at the age of 86 on the 18th of May, 2012, Deutsche Grammophon's The Art of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau is a musical journey through the legendary performer's seemingly boundless Lied, opera and cantata repertoire.

The first CD features favourite Schubert Lieder with Gerald Moore accompanying; a selection of opera extracts from Dietrich's most famous roles in works by Gluck, Mozart, Wagner and Richard Strauss; and his immortal Bach aria, Ich habe genug.

Disc two contains the classic recording of the Mahler Ruckert-Lieder, with Karl Bohm; the complete Schumann Dichterliebe song-cycle, recorded in 1965 with Jorg Demus; as well as a selection of rarities from the 1950s and 1960s.

With the included booklet offering a wonderful essay on the man's life and musical career in English, German and French, The Art of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau is the collection by which this great artist can now best be remembered.
